Bike to Work is only two days away!
May 18, 2010 at 5:09 PM | Posted in Bike to Work 2010, Uncategorized | 1 CommentHi Team Bulldog!
So this is my first official Blog post, just getting my feet wet (I think this coincides with the weather outside). But according to weather.com Wednesday is going to be a beautiful day to ride your bike to work. So let your friends and co-workers know that registration is still open at ibikefresno.org.
This year there will not be a ride from University House, since President Welty has another commitment. But he has sponsored refreshments for all riders! So, make sure you stop by the front of the North Gym from 7-9:00 AM to enjoy food and fellow riders.
Randy the campus Photographer will be in front of the North Gym at 7:30 to take a team photo, so wear your bulldog red. I’ll also have a camera to take some pictures to post.

Some stats….
May 15, 2009 at 8:40 PM | Posted in Bike to Work 2009, Uncategorized | Leave a commentHey Team Bulldog,
The Bike Coalition folks are verifying the totals with the team captains today and will announce the winners on Monday when they do the raffle. So stay tuned….
In the mean time, I have some stats for you:
Team Bulldog:
# of Riders = 74
Miles = 571
Mileage points = 1142
Earlybird Points = 148
Bonus Points = 90
Total Points = 1380 (Note: the number I emailed earlier was corrected)
So as a team we rode some big miles yesterday…. 571! Very nice, indeed!
20 riders had a commute of 1-5 miles
31 riders had a commute of 6-9 riders
and 23 riders had a commute of 10 or more miles.
The highest distance was Robin Trayler who rode a whopping 25 miles yesterday morning! Then a very warm 25 home at the end of the day…. Yeah! My hero!
I want to thank several people for their help putting on this year’s Bike to Work day. Thanks again to Dr. Welty, Dr. Oliaro, Dr. Junn, Cyndi Matson, John Waayers, & Dr. Beare for sponsoring our refreshments table this year. Big thanks also go to Kathy Hirasuna and Jennifer Stemwedel who got to campus really early to set up the refreshments for us. Kathy actually rode to campus before setting up 6:30 AM — now that’s dedication!! Thanks again to Randy for taking this year’s team photo and thank you all for participating.
To wrap up this post, I would like you all to take a few minutes and fill out this Bicycle Master Plan Survey. I understand that Fresno is having a bicycle master plan done in order to get some funding to make the city more bicycle friendly. So please take a minute to fill out this survey and give your valuable feedback.

So have a good day today and a great weekend. I’ll let you know the Challenge winners and the raffle winners after they are announced Monday, and I’ll post photos and responses to the Bike to Work feedback I collected as part of the Mileage Form later today.
Have a great day.

Tomorrow’s the day!
May 13, 2009 at 10:50 PM | Posted in Bike to Work 2009, Uncategorized | Leave a commentHello Team Bulldog.
Well tomorrow is the day. Hope you’re all ready to roll. Now for a few reminders….
1. Be safe! Take your time! Have fun! There is no timetable for bike to work, other than getting to campus before the refreshments are gone!
Seriously, be safe when you ride and please wear a helmet.
2. Check your bike gear tonight so you’re not flustered in the morning.
3. We’ve got a few rally points set up. You might want to confirm by email, but most of these times are set:
- Meeting at Dr. Oliaro’s (poliaro@csufresno.edu) house at 2767 Purvis which is 1 block east of Temperance on Barstow @6:30 AM.
- Ride with Greg Thatcher (gthatcher@csufresno.edu) from the Fowler/Barstow area departing around 7:30.
- Ride with John Waayers (jwaayers@csufresno.edu), Kristi (klayous@csufresno.edu), Chuck (cradke@csufresno.edu). Several ideas posted, so how about the Rite Aid at the corner of Nees and Cedar at 6:30 – 7:00 – several times were mentioned too. Email these folks to sort out a time certain.
- Ride with Dawn (dtruelsen@csufresno.edu) Meet at 6:00 AM at the Foster Freeze on Palm, south of Bullard.
- Ride with Michelle (mdenbest@csufresno.edu) Meet at Fresno City College (where the farmers market is held). leaving promptly at 6:10 to meet up at University House to ride with Welty.
- Ride with Dr. Welty from University House. Meeting at 6:20, departing at 6:30 AM. 4411 North Van Ness Boulevard (at Holland Avenue), Fresno 93704.
- Meet Dr. Welty’s group en route from University House at Barstow and Maroa, be ready at 6:40 in case we’re exactly on time!
4. Wear Red. This will be great for the team photo (to be taken at roughly 7AM tomorrow), but it is also good to wear bright colors when cycling… so why not make it Bulldog red?!
5. Refreshments will be available in front of the North Gym from 7 – 9:00 AM, compliments of Dr. Welty, Dr. Oliaro, Dr. Junn, Cyndi Matson, John Waayers, & Dr. Beare who graciously donated everything.
6. When you get to your offices tomorrow, report your mileage. I will send you a link to an online reporting form.
Have fun, Team Bulldog! See you in the morning!

Two Days to Go!
May 12, 2009 at 6:23 PM | Posted in Bike to Work 2009, Uncategorized | Leave a commentHey Gang!
Good work getting those registrations in. Early registration ended yesterday evening so we got extra points for all of you. Bravo! Registration is still possible until noon on Bike to Work day, so anyone who still wants to participate is very, very welcome!
Now for some stats…. Team Mobility is in the lead with 100 registered (Team Mobility is the team from CalTrans). Then comes Team Pelco with 96. We’re in third with 86 registered riders. There is one more team in our “Mega-team” category and that is the Broccoli Bikers who are the team from Kaiser. They’ve got 58 people signed up.
So if you know anyone on the fence, please give ‘em a nudge! There is plenty of room on Team Bulldog for more people! Here is the link to registration info…. http://bulldogbike.wordpress.com/09-registration-form/
Later today I will post a list of rally points in various areas around town so you can meet up with fellow Team Bulldog members on your way to campus. And tomorrow I will send out a link to a mileage reporting form. Once you get to campus, have some refreshments and head to your office, you’ll need to report your mileage. I’ll also remind you Thursday.
Finally, Randy the campus Photographer will be in front of the North Gym at 7:00 AM to take a team photo of whoever is there. I know it is early, but if you are able to get to campus by then that would be great. I also encourage you to take your own photos and we can post them on the blog later.
So look for a few more messages from me in the next two days and sign up anyone you can!
Way to go Team Bulldog!

Last Day for Early Registration Points!
May 11, 2009 at 6:05 PM | Posted in Bike to Work 2009, Uncategorized | Leave a commentHey Gang!
We’re up to 78 participants so far, with Team Mobility (88) beating us and Team Pelco (75) on our tail. So we need to beat the bushes and get more people to sign up! Last year we had 118 registrants, so I know we can beat last year’s numbers, we just need to talk up Bike to Work to our friends and colleagues a little bit more. Today is the last day we get early registration points for signing up — but registration is possible up to the day of the event.
We had announcements last week on Bulletin Board and on Fresnostatenews.com, and I even co-opted the Blackboard faculty mailing list (my bad!) and sent the faculty an invitation to participate. So the groundwork has been laid for you kind people to get the word out!
Granted, last year at this time gasoline prices were upwards of $4 a gallon, but hopefully cheaper gas isn’t the reason we’re down in our numbers.
So join me in becoming a pest to everyone you work with! Get those people signed up! Bike to Work is fun, fun, fun!
